Firestop systems

Construction codes and methods are always evolving, especially in the life safety aspect. Fire protection is summed up in 3 groups; detection, suppression, and compartmentation. Detection, fire alarm systems, and suppression, fire sprinkler or other active systems, are common and well known. Compartmentation, or passive systems, are comprised of fire rated walls and floors. A passive system prevents or slows the spread of fire through the building. Penetrations and joints in these fire rated assemblies require approved and listed firestop systems. As of 2012 the International Building Code requires 3rd party firestop inspectors on certain projects.

There are less than 200 people in the world that hold a Premier Certification from the International Firestop Council. Gryphon Inspection Services is proud to have achieved such an exalted certification.
